Jean Philip De Tender, EBU’s Deputy Director General and Director of Media spoke to Ida Nowakowska about the ongoing changes on the TV market. The biggest challenge has been the progression from linear viewing to streaming which has generated a lot of competion. The strength of public service media, TVP included, is the deep awarness of its audience and the ability to deliver content that is well-suited to the viewers‘ identity and needs. On the other hand, the challenge is to transform tried-and-tested formats and content in a way that adresses the needs of new, younger viewers. The mission of the EBU is to deliver knowledge and content to a large group of broadcasters who can launch their own platforms or work with digital giants. According to De Tender, the role of the Heart of Europe Festival is to bring broadcasters together and help form partnerships through which experience can be exchanged. It is a great example of cooperation between creatives from the CEE region which all sides can benefit from.
